Judi Archer

Judi Archer, textile designer and maker explores colour and form in her work whilst using texture to bring another dimension to her unique designs.
After many years as one-half of award-winning contemporary furniture design company, Archer and Co. Judi decided to re-energise her design process by completing an MA in Multidisciplinary Print Design.

Ironically, this creative journey led her back to her roots in constructed textiles. Much of her research was centred around sustainability, in the textile industry and its relationship with craft.

Taking inspiration from ancient Japanese crafts such as Boro Boro, Judi started to re-purpose textiles and augment them with texture, such as tufting. This led to her fascination with the ancient and disappearing craft of tufting. Both the physical and meditative process enthralled Judi, and led to her embracing this craft, and making it her principal technique for making her homeware designs.

Judi’s formative working years were spent in the Belgian textile industry, learning from generations of Flemish weavers. Travelling extensively her influences come from far and wide, but her love of simplicity and geometric forms is clearly rooted in Northern European modernism and Japanese minimalism.

Judi makes her cushions, pouffes, and art pieces all by hand herself, in her studio in Bristol, England. Sustainability and provenance are fundamental to her work, so she carefully sources her natural yarns, with colours and material specific to each project. She then sews and hand finishes each piece herself. All of her creations are beautiful, tactile, and lovingly crafted to be enjoyed and cherished in your home.
