This is a celebration of the work that year twelve Fine Art students have completed in their A Level Foundation Project at SMRT sixth form. They have curated an exhibition to showcase their creativity and multi-disciplinary approach to their learning this year. The course has given the students a dynamic introduction to the visual arts A Level and required them to respond critically to a range of contexts. They have debated the categorisation of Traditional vs Modern vs Contemporary art practices, transcribing Da Vinci's Mona Lisa to reimagine her image in an alternate historical setting. Biomorphic forms became stimulus material for giant, collaborative bamboo sculptures and students discovered how these could be transformed into concepts for public art.
An investigation into art movements of the twentieth century has enriched their understanding of how artists and creative groups respond to social and political change. Their subsequent work on Dadasim, A.I, Expressionism and Art Brut has required them to confront notions of class, race, gender and emotions. This is a talented generation of young artists whose persistence and determination is abundant and so exciting.
